Best Excursions in Aruba: 10 Travel Blogger’s Guide to Sun, Sea And Desert Adventures

Discover the best excursions in Aruba—from jeep safaris in Arikok National Park to catamaran cruises, snorkeling shipwrecks, and relaxing on stunning beaches. The first time I set foot on Aruba, it felt like the island and I had an instant connection. This little patch of paradise is the perfect blend of crystal‑clear water, desert landscapes and chill beach vibes, and I quickly realized that it’s also packed with adventures.

Rather than spending my days just lounging by the pool, I decided to treat Aruba like a playground and explore every corner, beach and rugged trail I could find.

From the cactus‑studded hills of Arikok National Park to the serene turquoise lagoon at Baby Beach, these excursions became more than attractions; they were experiences that made me feel alive, energized and blissfully in tune with the island.

I’m sharing this guide in a chatty, girlfriends‑over‑coffee tone because that’s how I tell stories — honest, enthusiastic and sprinkled with a bit of glamour.

Whether you’re a beach bum, thrill‑seeker or history lover, there’s something here you’ll adore, and I’ve tucked in practical packing tips and links to my favorite tours so you can turn inspiration into bookings. Grab your sandals, your chic sun hat and maybe a reusable water bottle — we’re off to explore Aruba’s best excursions!

Best Excursions in Aruba

1. Arikok National Park: Jeep Safaris & Caves

When I think of adventure, I think of the wide‑open desert landscapes and rugged trails of Arikok National Park. Covering nearly 20 % of the island and stretching over 7,907 acres, this protected area is home to wildlife, rare plants and geological formations that seem to belong in the pages of a fantasy novel.

I booked a jeep safari so I could rumble along the park’s dusty paths and stop at viewpoints that only locals seem to know about — think wave‑blasted cliffs, hidden bays and stretches of cactus forest. Rangers recommended tours because they know the flora and fauna better than anyone and can help spot hawks soaring overhead or blooming kadushi cacti, all while ensuring the park’s fragile ecosystems are respected.

Remember, UTVs and ATVs are banned in the park, so book a guided jeep instead and bring comfortable shoes, plenty of water, sunscreen and a bandana to shield your face from dust. The entrance fee goes toward conservation and educational programs, and I felt good knowing my visit helped protect this wild slice of Aruba.

Jeep tours typically stop at rock formations like Moro, Boca Prins and Dos Playa; the latter’s twin coves showcase how dramatically the desert meets the sea. When the ride ended, I realized Arikok isn’t just a park — it’s the island’s heartbeat.

Hidden deep within Arikok are two enchanting caves: Quadirikiri and Fontein. I still remember ducking through low entrances and emerging into shadowy chambers decorated with stalactites, stalagmites and ancient rock art.

Quadirikiri is famous for its two chambers; sunlight streams through holes in the ceiling and illuminates the spacious cavern, making the 100‑foot interior glow ethereally. Harmless bats flutter near the far end, adding to the sense of otherworldliness.

Fontein, by contrast, is smaller but filled with Arawak Indian drawings etched on its ceiling, giving visitors a tangible connection to Aruba’s Indigenous heritage. Both caves are open from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm and are best explored with a park ranger, who can point out the petroglyphs and explain why the limestone formations look like frozen waves.

The footing can be slippery, so pack closed‑toe shoes, a headlamp or phone flashlight, and a lightweight scarf to protect your hair from cave dust. After emerging into the blazing sunlight, I couldn’t resist a celebratory iced coconut water. If you want to delve deeper into these caves with a guide, check out a jeep and cave safari on Viator or GetYourGuide, which usually combines both caves and the natural pool.

2. Natural Pool (Conchi): Rock‑Carved Serenity

Just when I thought Arikok couldn’t surprise me again, I discovered Conchi, the natural pool. This remote swimming hole is carved by volcanic rock into the coastline and feels like Mother Nature’s secret spa. Getting there is an adventure in itself: the rough terrain means you’ll need a 4×4 vehicle, horseback tour or a long hike to reach the pool; regular cars aren’t allowed beyond the park checkpoints.

Our guide told us that locals call the pool “Conchi” (meaning bowl) or “Cura di Tortuga”, and it sits inside Arikok on a wind‑whipped, deserted stretch of coast. When we arrived, a salty breeze and the sound of crashing waves greeted us.

Volcanic stone walls encircle the pool, keeping ocean swells at bay and creating a calm, crystal‑clear basin for swimming and snorkeling. Occasionally, waves spill over the rocks, sending sprays of water glistening in the sun; it’s both thrilling and a reminder to heed the ranger’s safety advice.

Accessing Conchi requires moderate fitness: there are steep natural steps and uneven surfaces, so it’s not wheelchair accessible. Pack water shoes, a towel, biodegradable sunscreen and plenty of water — and if you’re prone to hunger, know that a tiny snack stand atop the stairs sells drinks and chips.

I loved snorkeling here; tropical fish dart among the rocks, and the protected bowl feels like an aquarium. Because this site lies within Arikok, you’ll need a park entrance pass, and tours often combine Conchi with jeep excursions.

You can book a Natural Pool & Cave Explorer Adventure on GetYourGuide that includes transportation, entrance fees and a guide. As I floated in the pool, watching waves crash beyond the rock barrier, I felt grateful for the raw, untouched beauty that Aruba preserves so well.

3. Eagle Beach: Aruba’s Wide, White‑Sand Canvas

On the west coast, Eagle Beach unfurls like a cream‑colored ribbon under azure skies. Known as Aruba’s widest beach, it was voted one of the top beaches in the Caribbean and it’s easy to see why. The powder‑soft sand here doesn’t get too hot underfoot, thanks to its coral composition, so I could stroll barefoot without burning my toes.

The water is the kind of turquoise you dream about, and the gentle surf makes it ideal for swimming, stand‑up paddleboarding or simply floating while pelicans glide overhead. Shade is plentiful — there are palapa huts and fofoti trees dotted along the shore, and I loved propping my beach towel beneath one of those twisting, wind‑shaped fofoti trees that have become a national symbol.

During Easter, Aruban families camp here for a week, pitching tents and cooking under the stars, a tradition that speaks to the beach’s importance in local culture. Sea turtles also love Eagle Beach; the island’s turtle conservation program protects nests of four species along this shore.

You’ll find ample parking and water‑sports rentals at Eagle Beach, so pack reef‑safe sunscreen, a wide‑brimmed hat, cash for renting chairs or jet skis and perhaps a cooler of snacks. Many low‑rise hotels sit just across the street and offer cabanas and lounge chairs to their guests. After a morning swim, I walked over to a nearby café for fresh fish tacos and a mango smoothie, then returned for a blissful afternoon reading under my palapa.

If you’re the type who loves to explore multiple beaches in a day, consider a Beach Hopping tour on Viator that stops at Eagle Beach, Arashi and Baby Beach — you’ll have time to sunbathe at each and still catch sunset cocktails. Eagle Beach, with its endless sand and gentle surf, is the kind of place where time slips away in the most delicious way.

4. Palm Beach: High‑Rise Glamour & Sunset Strolls

Just up the coast from Eagle Beach lies the vibrant playground of Palm Beach. This two‑mile‑long strip is lined with glamorous high‑rise hotels, lively casinos, open‑air shopping malls and enough beach bars to host a bar‑hop on sand.

The vibe here is decidedly energetic: during the day, you’ll see parasailers soaring above the water, families renting jet skis and snorkelers paddling out to the reefs just offshore. Calm, clear water makes Palm Beach a haven for swimmers and novice snorkelers. I loved waking up early and walking along the shoreline at dawn; the air felt cool and the sea glassy, and I passed other sunrise seekers sipping coffee and doing yoga on the sand.

As the sun began to set, the sky melted into tangerine and lavender hues; I poured a glass of bubbly at a beachfront restaurant and watched the fiery orb dip into the Caribbean. Locals swear you can sometimes see the elusive “green flash,” and though I didn’t catch it here, the sunset itself was spectacular.

After dark, Palm Beach transforms into a night‑owls’ paradise. Clubs pulse with reggaeton and soca music, outdoor dining terraces fill with laughter, and two large shopping malls offer everything from cinemas to water‑fountain shows.

Pack dress‑up clothes if you plan to sample the nightlife — think breezy dresses or linen shirts and sandals — but also bring a swimsuit and waterproof phone case for daytime fun. You can book catamaran cruises, parasailing sessions or snorkel tours directly from the hotel piers; my personal favorite was a sunset sail complete with open bar and live music.

If you want a break from the bustle, cross the road and explore the serene boardwalk area or visit the Butterfly Farm nearby. Palm Beach proves that Aruba can be both laid‑back and electrifying, often within the same afternoon.

5. Antilla Shipwreck: Snorkel into History

Underneath Aruba’s tranquil sea lies a piece of World War II history. The SS Antilla, a 400‑foot German cargo ship, was scuttled by its crew in 1940 to prevent it from falling into enemy hands. Today, this wreck — one of the largest in the Caribbean — rests on the seabed near Malmok Beach at a depth of about 60 feet, its hull encrusted with coral and home to schools of colorful fish.

As I peered down from my snorkel mask, I could make out smokestacks, deck fittings and open portholes; it felt like snorkeling above a ghostly, underwater museum. The intact sections of the ship stretch dramatically along the ocean floor, and tropical fish weave in and out of the metal skeleton. For certified divers, exploring the Antilla up close is even more thrilling — there are passages you can swim through, guided by professional dive instructors.

Snorkelers can still see much of the wreck from the surface because of the clear water and shallow depth. Many catamaran tours include a stop here; I booked a morning sail with open bar and sandwiches, and our captain anchored near the ship so we could plunge into the water.

Pack a rash guard, reef‑safe sunscreen, an underwater camera and a towel, and consider motion‑sickness pills if you’re sensitive to waves. For history buffs, the Antilla’s story is a poignant reminder of Aruba’s strategic importance during WWII — our guide told us about the ship’s final moments before we jumped in, which made the snorkel even more meaningful.

Ready to see it for yourself? Check out Snorkeling Sail to Antilla and Catalina Bay on Viator or GetYourGuide. Floating above the Antilla, surrounded by blue water and history, was one of the highlights of my trip.

6. Baby Beach: A Lagoon for Little Ones (and Grown‑Ups)

At Aruba’s southeastern tip near San Nicolaas, Baby Beach arcs gracefully in a half‑moon shape. This serene lagoon is famous for its shallow, crystal‑clear water and is ideal for families and anyone who prefers gentle waves. You can wade out dozens of meters and still touch the sandy bottom, which is why locals dubbed it “Baby Beach.”

I watched toddlers splash happily while their parents floated nearby, and it warmed my heart to see how accessible this slice of paradise is. Where the lagoon opens to the ocean, there’s a marked snorkeling area with slightly deeper water and colorful fish; stay within the buoys for safety.

Big Mama’s Grill and a small refreshment stand serve hamburgers, seafood platters and cold drinks just steps from the sand, which means you don’t need to pack a picnic if you prefer to travel light. Beach chairs, windscreens and snorkel gear can be rented on site, and complimentary huts provide shade.

Baby Beach sits about a 45‑minute drive from the Palm Beach hotel strip, so I recommend renting a car or booking a tour that includes transportation. Pack snorkeling gear (or rent it there), a sun hat, sandals and plenty of drinking water, and consider bringing cash for the rental stalls.

On busy weekends and holidays, Baby Beach can feel lively, but if you arrive early you might have the lagoon almost to yourself. The drive to the southern coast passes through Aruba’s industrial area and then transforms into rugged coastline; the contrast only adds to the experience.

For an effortless day trip, book a Southern Aruba island tour that stops at Baby Beach along with historic San Nicolaas and the Red Anchor monument. As I floated in the warm, shallow water, I felt like a kid again — which is exactly what this beach is meant for.

7. California Lighthouse: Sunset Views & Maritime Tales

Standing sentinel at Aruba’s northwestern tip is the California Lighthouse, a slender stone tower that offers 360‑degree views of the island. Named after the steamship California, which wrecked off the coast before the lighthouse was built, the lighthouse dates to 1910 and rises above the dunes of Hudishibana.

From the viewing platform you can gaze across the island’s western coastline, dotted with coral beaches and the turquoise Caribbean Sea. The lighthouse is open daily from 9 am to 7 pm and costs about $5 to climb; no reservations are required.

My advice? Time your visit for sunset. As the sun lowered, it bathed the desert landscape and sea in golden light, and there was an audible gasp when the sun finally slipped below the horizon — some even claimed to see the fabled green flash.

Climbing the lighthouse involves a spiral staircase, so wear comfortable footwear and bring water — it can be hot inside. There’s a small kiosk at the base selling souvenirs and cold drinks, and a couple of food trucks parked nearby with snacks. For an even richer experience, join a guided tour that combines the lighthouse with stops at the California Dunes and Arashi Beach; many UTV tours also pause here.

History lovers will appreciate hearing about the lighthouse’s role in maritime navigation and its namesake ship; the docent told our group that without the light, ships would misjudge the reef‑studded coastline. Whether you climb it at noon or sunset, the California Lighthouse is a must‑see for sweeping views and a dose of seafaring nostalgia.

8. Alto Vista Chapel: A Hilltop Sanctuary

If you need a moment of reflection during your adventure‑filled itinerary, head to the Alto Vista Chapel. This small, bright yellow chapel sits atop a hill, surrounded by cacti and overlooking rugged desert terrain. Its story dates back to 1750, when a Spanish missionary built the first Catholic church on the island; today’s structure is a lovingly maintained reconstruction that draws pilgrims and travellers alike.

Walking up the gravel path lined with stone crosses, I felt a sense of calm wash over me. Inside, the chapel is simple: wooden benches, a single aisle and statues of saints bathed in sunlight that filters through shuttered windows. There is a white cross standing in front of the entrance, where visitors often tie ribbons or leave pebbles as tokens of prayer and gratitude.

The panoramic views from the hill make this place feel extra special; you can see the coastline in the distance and the vast, cactus‑dotted landscape stretching out in all directions.

Locals hold annual pilgrimages here, most notably on January 18 for the Feast of Santa Filomena, when hundreds of people walk or drive in procession to celebrate their faith. Even if you’re not religious, the chapel’s serene energy is palpable.

Pack a scarf or shawl to cover your shoulders (the site is still used for worship), wear comfortable shoes for the short hill climb and bring your camera for those sweeping views. Because the chapel is off the beaten path, renting a car or booking a cultural tour is the easiest way to get there. Visiting Alto Vista reminded me that Aruba isn’t only about beaches and nightlife; it has a rich history and spiritual depth that deserves our respect.

9. Catamaran Snorkeling Cruises: Sail & Swim in Style

One of my favorite ways to experience Aruba’s turquoise waters is aboard a catamaran. I opted for a three‑hour snorkeling cruise on a 45‑foot catamaran that included open bar, light lunch, tropical fruit, disinfected snorkel gear and even a rope swing and waterslide.

The boat’s trampolines were perfect for sunbathing; when I needed shade, I retreated under the large canopy and sipped a rum punch while chatting with fellow travelers. The first snorkeling stop was the Antilla shipwreck, where orange anemones, tube sponges and lobsters cling to the massive structure.

I swam alongside schools of yellowtail snapper and gazed down at the ghostly hull, feeling both exhilarated and humbled. Next, we cruised to Boca Catalina, a shallow reef where parrotfish nibble on coral and, if you’re lucky, you might spot a green sea turtle gliding by.

For those who prefer a more packaged experience, I’d recommend the Boat Trip with Snorkeling and Open Bar on GetYourGuide (search “Aruba boat trip” on their website). It offers hotel pick‑up, a spacious catamaran, sandwiches, open bar and snorkel stops at the Antilla and Catalina Bay, and the reviews are glowing.

Pack swimwear, a towel, biodegradable sunscreen and a waterproof case for your phone. If you’re susceptible to sunburn, bring a rash guard or light long‑sleeve top; the Caribbean sun is no joke.

My catamaran day ended with me sprawled on the trampoline, salty hair whipping in the breeze and a smile plastered across my face. There’s something magical about sailing past Aruba’s coastline — it makes you feel both glamorous and free.

10. UTV/ATV Island Tours: Off‑Road Thrills

After lounging on beaches and sailing on catamarans, I craved adrenaline — enter UTV/ATV tours. These guided off‑road safaris let you drive a 4×4 utility task vehicle across Aruba’s desert‑like terrain, revving along dusty trails and hugging the rugged coastline.

I booked with a reputable operator that emphasized safety and provided helmets, a briefing and electronic power steering to make handling the vehicles easier. We zoomed past towering cacti and rocky outcroppings, stopping at hidden gems like the Ayo Rock Formations, where massive boulders and ancient Arawak petroglyphs told stories of the island’s earliest inhabitants.

At Blackstone Beach and the Three Bridges we watched waves pound natural stone arches; at Bushiribana Gold Mill ruins we wandered through crumbling walls of Aruba’s brief gold‑rush history. Our route also passed Baby Bridge, the remains of a natural bridge that collapsed in 2005, and concluded at Boca Catalina Beach, where cliff‑jumping and a refreshing swim awaited.

Guides encourage guests to bring a driver’s license, sunglasses, swimming gear, towel, closed‑toe shoes or sturdy sandals, sunscreen and cash for gratuities. Water and cookies are usually provided, and some tours even include pick‑up and drop‑off from your hotel.

Expect to get dusty — I tied a bandana over my mouth and wore long sleeves to protect my skin. If you prefer a more individualized experience, companies offer private UTV excursions; just be sure you’re comfortable driving off‑road.

For those who want a mix of adventure and sightseeing, the Wild Side UTV Tour from ABC Tours or the Aruba UTV & ATV Adventure from RockaBeach are great choices. Off‑roading across Aruba’s interior made me appreciate just how diverse the island is; it’s not all beaches and bars but a landscape of dunes, cliffs, ruins and cactus‑lined trails waiting to be explored.

Embrace Aruba’s Diversity

Aruba has a way of seducing you with its contrasts. One moment you’re cliff‑jumping into a rock‑rimmed pool; the next you’re savoring a sunset cocktail on a powdery beach.

I’ve always been drawn to destinations that offer both relaxation and adventure, and Aruba delivers in spades.

Whether you’re exploring Arikok’s cactus forests, snorkeling over a shipwreck, climbing a century‑old lighthouse, meditating in a hilltop chapel or revving a UTV across the desert, you’ll discover that “One Happy Island” isn’t just a slogan — it’s a feeling you carry home.

So pack your swimsuit and your sense of adventure, leave some room in your suitcase for souvenirs, and prepare to fall head over heels for Aruba’s sun‑soaked excursions. I know I did.
