How To Travel With Jewelry
This really doesn’t have to be complicated but very much depends on the size and shape of the jewellery. This is why it pays to have a variety of boxes. I am a lover of accessories and tend to come back with even more when I travel so I always sure they are properly packed to minimise breakage.
I usually pack studs and rings in the smaller boxes like the blue box. This way if I am carrying any rings or earring with precious stones or anything valuable or of sentimental value I can keep this close by in my handbag and not carry-on or checked!
For larger pieces of jewellery I have larger jewellery cases or even jewelry roll organiers.
Addressing Some Questions?
Is jewellery allowed in hand luggage?
Yes, you are allowed to carry jewellery in hand luggage. I strong recommend never putting jewellery or super valuable items in check luggage. Also have in your handbag or hand luggage that is with you at all times. Many a time checked suitcases are opened sometimes for additional security or sometimes because handlers have sticky fingers. The last thing you want to find is that you have missing jewellery because you put in the checked bag.
Can you bring jewelry in a carry-on?
Yes, jewelry in your carry-on, this and your handbag are the only places you should be packing your jewellery when you travel in addition to putting in the travel jewelry cases. Same reason as above. Thefts happen. You dont want to lose valuable and sentimental jewellery.
How do I travel with expensive jewelry?
First of all always make sure you properly pack your jewellery in a roll organiser or jewellery case. Secondly never put expensive jewellery in checked luggage. Thirdly if you can make sure its in your handbag or carry-on luggage. Lastly, always make sure you take pictures of your expensive jewelry and make sure you are insured! I have covered insurance companies in my travel resources pages. Also, make sure that when booking accommodation there is a safe in your room and where the jewellery is super expensive to make sure you can use the hotel’s safety deposit boxes. When I use Booking.com to book my travel accommodation usually the details will show if rooms have safety boxes.
What is the best way to pack necklaces when travelling?
Depends on the length and style of necklaces. I have larger necklaces that I roll in tissue before circling and putting into a jewelry box. Then there are those that I will spread out and put in a square box and then pin inside the box to minimise movements of the necklace and then add a satin scarf on top or tissues before putting the lid on the box. Again make sure you have a wide range of travel jewelry cases to choose from so that you can travel with whatever jewellery you want to accessorise your outfits when you are on a trip away.
What is the best travel jewelry case for long necklaces?
Again, this depends on the shape and size but I would recommend having at lease a box with compartments, a box with no compartments like my silver box in the images and then also having a jewelry roll organiser. Having these allows you the flexibility to carry a wide range of jewellery and not just long necklaces.
