Word On The Street | A Local’s Guide To Sydney With The Trusted Traveller

Last updated: April 22, 2026 by Bianca

This is the last in the Word On The Street travel series I have been doing with bloggers this month. I hope you have enjoyed coverage of Cusco in Peru, Scottsdale in Arizona, USA and Perth in Australia. The last installment is also by way of Australia. One other reason why I am super excited to share this city guide with you is because I have FINALLY booked my ticket to Australia. I am heading down under come March next year. I will be sharing more details about that soon. Without further ado, I will let Jen Seligmann aka The Trusted Traveller guide us on things to do and see in Sydney and around this beautiful and popular Australia city.

Sydney is like no other place because…

It’s one of the most multicultural cities in the world. You can get food from just about every cuisine in the world.

Where are the best beaches in town?
Australia is well known for its beautiful beaches and Sydney has some of the country’s best. Tourist favourite is Bondi or Manly but for something a little less crowded head to the southern suburbs to visit the beaches of Cronulla or the Royal National Park. What area of town is best for a cocktail or a nice night out?
Sydney is full of great bars and pubs in all shapes and sizes. To enjoy a drink with one of the best views in the world head to the Rocks or Circular Quay and have a drink under the Sydney Opera House with a view of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Where can the best view be found at?
Sydney has a few really great vantage points. The Sydney Tower Eye is the tallest tower in the CBD and offers 360 degree views; climb the Sydney Harbour Bridge for city and harbour views unlike anywhere else in the world; or head out to Watsons Bay for a view looking back across the harbour.

Best local escapes

Sydney is perfectly positioned to allow you to easily escape the busy city and head to the mountains or the beaches. Head north or south and you’ll find a spectacular coastline that’s lined with relaxed beach towns; or out to the Blue Mountains for hiking and quaint mountain villages.

What activities would you highly recommend in the city
The first thing any visitor to Sydney should do is get out on the harbour whether it be on a ferry, a cruise or on the hop on hop off boat that makes stops at some of the harbours best spots. If being on the water is not your thing then a big walk along the harbours edge and through the Historic Rocks area is a must.

Give me one secret only a local would know
I personally think Sydney’s best kept secret is the Royal National Park. Located in the southern suburbs of the city, the park is the second oldest national park in the world after Yellowstone in the US and is full of spectacular beaches, miles and miles of bushwalking trails and a multitude of native Australian animals and plant life.

Easiest way to get around town
Sydney has an extensive train, bus and ferry network that reaches just about every corner of the city. Get yourself an Opal card on arrival and it is as simple as loading it with funds and tapping your card to ride.

Make sure you pack…
Your swimmers so you don’t miss out on our beautiful beaches.

This was the last post in the travel Word on the Street Series, I am excited to share the next blogger collaborations with bloggers like Simply Cyn and Samatha over at Cocobutter. It will all be around what the four bloggers taking part do to get ready for a vacation. So get ready for tips on how to pack and as well as the ladies sharing the beauty secrets.
